Our story
Made for one another.
A note from the founder.
I built ChurchFam because I saw a need in the church, and just couldn’t let it go. It started with how difficult it was to manage prayer requests. They were scattered everywhere, with emails and printed lists out of date almost immediately. If you needed prayer right away, there might be a bunch of group messages or a Facebook post, but no central place where everyone could see it or find it again when it was time to pray.
Then I realized the problem went beyond prayer requests. The local church struggles to help its members connect to one another. Existing apps and websites help people connect to the church organization, but not to the true church: each other. I’ve sat in the pew, volunteered, and served on staff, and I’ve heard the same frustration from members, deacons, and pastors at other churches. And as someone who’s spent a career designing software, I couldn’t unsee how much better this could be. The tools we have aren’t a good fit, and the endless message threads always leave someone out. Many people avoid the big social platforms because of everything that comes with them.
The irony is that social media promised to bring us closer but has left us feeling more isolated than ever. We find ourselves surrounded every Sunday by familiar faces we hardly know, people whose names we can’t always recall. It isn’t for lack of wanting to connect. It’s just hard to know someone when you only get a minute with them once a week. Our culture is yearning for real connection with real people, and there is no better place for that than the local church body.
Scripture calls us to bear one another’s burdens, to encourage and build one another up, to pray for one another, to rejoice and weep together. But we can’t do any of this if we don’t know one another, or what’s happening in each other’s lives.
“If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”
1 Corinthians 12:26 (ESV)
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV)
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2 (ESV)
That’s why I built ChurchFam: a tool to help us carry out the “one another” commands. To bring the good of social media without the harm that comes with it, no ads, no algorithm deciding what you see, nothing engineered to keep you scrolling. To deepen your connection with the people you see every week, the ones who matter most, instead of strangers you’ll only ever see on a screen. And for those who don’t use apps, email summaries keep them part of the family too.
So if you’d like to bring your church closer together, give ChurchFam a try. And if you have ideas on how to make it even better, I’d love to hear them.
